Abstract: The objective of the present study was to analyze the zoometric measurements of a commercial herd of female sheep of the Black Belly breed during the weaning stage to the second third of gestation. It was carried out in a commercial herd with an intensive stable system of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICB) of the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez (UACJ), state of Chihuahua, Mexico. 17 females of the Black Belly breed were used with an average age of 90 days and average live weight at weaning of 18.0 kg ± 1.6. The information on the morphological measurements was obtained from a database with the purpose of describing the relationship that exists between the zoometric measurements. The study carried out was longitudinal, with 10 measurements every 30 days/animal from the third month of age (weaning) until reaching one year of age. The measurements recorded were: live weight, back length, rump length, neck length, thoracic perimeter, abdominal perimeter, shank circumference, shank height, withers height and rump height. Descriptive statistics were obtained and a Pearson correlation coefficient analysis was performed. Live weight showed a moderate, positive and significant degree of correlation with the evaluated variables, demonstrating an acceptable degree of morphostructural harmony, these variables being able to estimate live weight in female sheep of the Black Belly breed. Chest perimeter and abdominal perimeter were the most significant variables in terms of correlation. Zoometry as a measurement tool can constitute a criterion for the selection of females at different stages of growth with a view to the genetic improvement of the breed.
