Abstract: Synthetic dyes in effluents greatly affect living beings and the aquatic ecosystem. In this research, the adsorption kinetics of synthetic dye Methylene Blue (MB) was evaluated by weak acid activated nanoclays in aqueous medium. The activation was carried out with NaCl at 1M and H3PO4 at 10%, to subsequently perform adsorption kinetics treatments at pH (5 and 8) and with activated clay (AA) and natural clay (AN); for times 0, 30, 50, 70, 90, 90, 130, 180, 230, 330 and 430 min; taking absorbance readings by means of a spectrophotometer at 664 nm. The results of the kinetic study were adjusted to the experimental data to the pseudo first order and second order models; where, the latter presents a better adjustment to the adsorption kinetics of methylene blue with AA and AN with R2=0.99. At the same time, it was possible to determine the adsorption capacity in equilibrium that oscillates between 2.473 to 4.868 mg/g; a fast adsorption is observed in the first 30 to 50 min, where the optimum pH was at pH 5; likewise, AA has a degree of crystallinity of 97.24% with 2.85 nm of crystal size. AA with phosphoric acid and sodium chloride has a higher adsorption capacity compared to natural clay; this resource is economical and environmentally friendly, which can be used in water treatment.
