Abstract: Introduction: The relationship and the family context directly or indirectly influence individuals who experience it at each stage of life, considering that the family and family arrangements act as a tool for individual, relational and social development. In this context, the family can be recognized as the first social space that the individual occupies. Objectives: Reflect on the influence of the family structure on the individual's mental health in all stages of development. Method: Experience report constructed through the reflective text constructed and presented in the discipline of Health Care in Life Cycles, linked to the Graduate Program in Health and Rurality (PPGSR), master's level, at the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), campus Palmeira das Missões/RS. Results: It is observed that family relationships have a great impact and influence on the construction of individuals, as their development is influenced by family relationships, which contributes positively (or not) to interpersonal relationships. Still, the environment in which the individual is inserted will have repercussions for all later stages of experiences, whether positive or negative. Discussions: The family plays a role in replicating and perpetuating customs, beliefs and values, which may (or may not) lead to illness processes over generations, and it is necessary to recognize that family dynamics are closely linked to the mental health of individuals. Conclusions: This construction favored research and reflection on the family structure and the mental health of individuals over the course of life cycles, as well as helping to understand the attributions and responsibilities of the family system.
