Abstract: The increase in life expectancy, coupled with improved health and well-being conditions, has led to a significant growth in the elderly population worldwide. This phenomenon, while positive, has brought with it a set of new social and health challenges, among which the growing incidence of neurodegenerative diseases, such as dementia, stands out. It is estimated that more than 44 million people currently live with this pathology, a number that, according to forecasts by the World Health Organization (WHO), could exceed 135 million by 2050. In this context, the promotion of active aging and the implementation of cognitive stimulation strategies play a fundamental role in preserving the autonomy and quality of life of older people. This article aims to present and analyze the "Gym of the Greater Brain" Project, an initiative developed in 2016 by a private social solidarity institution in the north of Portugal, with the purpose of providing the elderly population with a space dedicated to regular cognitive training, inspired by the logic of physical activity practice. The project was conceived as a non-pharmacological therapy, using technological equipment and mental stimulation exercises aimed at activating cognitive functions and promoting neuroplasticity. The research was conducted with a group of 50 institutionalized elderly people, using a set of geriatric scales applied in three distinct phases: initial diagnosis, intermediate phase, and final evaluation. The results obtained over two years of monitoring revealed significant improvements: 56% of participants demonstrated greater cognitive activity, a reduction in memory complaints, and evident gains in functionality and autonomy in basic activities of daily living (ADLs). The Brain Gym thus proved to be an instrument promoting a new paradigm of aging, integrating continuous mental training into the routine of the elderly and contributing to the construction of a new culture of promoting active aging.
