Abstract: Smoking is a persistent public health challenge, with higher rates among disadvantaged groups, exacerbating inequalities. 1,298 articles were analyzed in the PubMed, LILACS, and SciELO databases, resulting in 17 selected articles after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Targeted and accessible strategies are essential to reduce smoking and its negative impacts. Oxytocin (OT) has been studied as a possible intervention due to its ability to reduce stress reactivity and smoking cravings. Vulnerable populations, such as people experiencing homelessness, have a higher prevalence of smoking, requiring innovative and culturally sensitive approaches. The use of electronic cigarettes (ECs) as an alternative shows potential but further research is needed. Strategies such as providing free ECs may be effective but require feasibility and acceptance by homeless smokers. In summary, personalized and comprehensive approaches are needed to help vulnerable smokers achieve and maintain long-term abstinence, informing future interventions and public health policies.
