Abstract: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a mental disorder characterized by distinct episodes of at least two weeks duration involving changes in affect, cognition and neurovegetative functions, with interepisodic remissions. When MDD occurs in the pregnancy-puerperal period, physical and psychological changes make the picture more complex. Thus, with all the adaptations that the COVID-19 pandemic required, in pregnant and postpartum women, there was an increase in the prevalence of mental health problems, due to fear of contagion and concern for the health of the fetus. Patient of childbearing age with previous psychiatric disorders had 2 pregnancies, the last one being in the pandemic period when she had no support network. She pointed out that both times she had signs and symptoms of MDD, but she chose to undergo treatment with medications and other types of therapies only in the last pregnancy, in which she had improved. In view of this, the importance of appropriate therapeutic strategies for MDD is concluded, showing that drug therapy does not generate risks to the baby and is capable of promoting lasting results with regard to improving the patient's clinical condition and quality of life.
