• Abstract:

  Soybean is among the main species cultivated in the municipality of

  Balsas, MA, where it is responsible for 10% of the national production. municipality of

  Balsas, MA and to analyze the possible need for irrigation as a strategy for supplying

  water demand in the respective crop phases. The methodology of estimation of

  reference evapotranspiration by the Penman-Monteith-FAO (EToPM) method and

  the water demand of economic interest (ETc) provided relative information on the

  amount of water consumed in the different stages of development of the studied crop.

  The estimated water requirement for soybean crop from planting to harvest in the

  municipality of Balsas, MA was 498.98 mm. From July 1st to November 7th there is

  water limitation for soybean rainfed cultivation in the municipality of Balsas-MA, since

  there is no water supply necessary for the proper development of the crop, and the use

  of irrigation systems is necessary.
