Abstract: Flow is an optimal mental state in which a person becomes fully immersed in an activity and is considered highly relevant for human performance and well-being. In the workplace, flow is associated with a mobilizing experience for engagement and achieving results for leaders and teams. This systematic review investigated the relationship between leadership style and flow at work. Following the PRISMA recommendation and consulting the Scopus, PsyInfo, Web of Science, and Pubmed databases, eight studies were included with a total of 4,600 participants from various countries, mostly professionals in the service sector. The results indicated that leadership styles that aimed for high-quality interaction, psychological empowerment, autonomy, positive emotions, low centralization, and authenticity were significantly related to flow at work. Further studies are suggested in varied contexts to investigate possible relationships between different leadership styles and flow.
