Abstract: Basic sanitation is a right guaranteed by the Constitution and defined by Law 11.445/2007, which deals with access and adequacy in this area. The indiscriminate discharge of raw or untreated domestic sewage into water bodies contributes to the transmission of water-related diseases. In Brazil and other developing countries, the lack of sanitation is always related to poverty, with the low-income population being the most affected by the lack of treated water and appropriate sanitation conditions. The implementation of sanitation systems, in this case, would mean interfering in the environment in such a way as to interrupt the cycle of disease transmission, improving the population's quality of life. Thus, this Research Project within the scope of the Institutional Scientific Initiation Program aims to present Individual solutions for the treatment and final disposal of domestic sewage in Cidade dos Meninos in Duque de Caxias, at a low cost and easy to make and handle, featuring materials that are as accessible as possible in addition to being simple to operate. The phases of the project will be presented through sketches at meetings with the community, suggesting four options for sanitation solutions. The results obtained during the bibliographical survey showed that the implementation of a sewage collection and treatment system is certainly a public health issue, which tends towards environmental preservation and socio-economic development. In this sense, it is necessary to establish a certain strategy for the treatment of sanitary sewage in these regions, presenting a technical, optimized proposal with very low implementation costs.
