Abstract: Esketamine, an NMDA receptor antagonist and glutamatergic modulator, has proven efficacy in treatment-resistant depression and potential benefits on anxiety symptoms, both directly and indirectly. This review analyzed clinical studies in psychiatric and perioperative settings, covering various populations, including postpartum women, elderly, cancer patients, and pediatric groups. Findings indicate positive effects on sleep quality, pain control, hemodynamic stability, and reduction of adverse experiences that influence emotional state. Although promising, its application in primary anxiety disorders still requires specific clinical trials and standardized dosing protocols. Esketamine thus emerges as a versatile therapeutic tool, with the potential to integrate into the multidimensional management of depression and anxiety.
