Abstract: Objective: To describe errors related to patient identification, described in the literature. Method: Integrative literature review, carried out between June and September 2021. Studies published between 2016 and 2021, in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, were included. Abstracts, dissertations, theses, editorials, and studies unrelated to the topic addressed were excluded. The search was carried out in the following databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, Spanish Bibliographic Index in Health Sciences and Nursing Database, Online System for Search and Analysis of Medical Literature. The studies were organized by journal, authors, title, year of publication, language, country, objective, type of study, and main findings. The contents were grouped by similarity. Results: Five articles were analyzed; all (100%) published in national journals. Four studies presented a quantitative approach (80%). Two (40%) studies were published in 2019 and 2018. Two categories were identified: 1) Errors related to the registration of the patient's name on the bracelet and 2) Errors related to identification failures in the medication process. Conclusion: The limitation of this article is the scarcity of studies related to the theme. The results of this review may contribute to the improvement of the patient identification process in health institutions.
