Abstract: Aortic dissection (AD) is a potentially lethal condition requiring immediate treatment. This study examined data from 14 years of AD treatment in the city of Rio de Janeiro, correlating epidemiology with therapeutic outcomes. Using data from DATASUS and a literature review, 232 hospitalizations between January 2008 and December 2022 were analyzed. The results revealed a predominance of elective procedures (192), with total costs of R$2,563,201.11. The overall mortality rate was 29.74%, highlighting the disparity between elective and emergency care, as well as the difference between the public and private sectors. The study underscores the need for improvements in AD management and data collection to address this public health challenge.
