Abstract: This complementary chapter addresses the epidemiology of hospitalizations due to diabetes mellitus in Fortaleza, CE, delving into the analysis of social and environmental determinants that influence the occurrence of these hospitalizations. By evaluating the period from 2017 to 2020, we explore not only the demographic aspects of hospitalizations but also the socioeconomic, environmental, and behavioral factors that may contribute to the prevalence of these conditions. Additionally, we discuss prevention and management strategies based on a holistic approach that considers multiple aspects of health.
