Abstract: Burns in Brazil are a serious public health problem, causing physical and psychological trauma that is often irreversible, in addition to affecting the social and family domains, depending on the severity. This study is literature review based on bibliographical research, using descriptors such as grafts, skin, histophysiology and treatment, with articles selected from several databases between 2014 and 2024, excluding those not related to the use of grafts to treat burns. Thus, it is noted that around 180,000 deaths annually, worldwide, were caused by burns, mainly in low and middle income countries. In Brazil, there are approximately 1,000,000 cases annually, with 19,772 deaths between 2015 and 2020, mainly affecting children, the elderly and adult men. Most cases occur in domestic environments, with men being more frequently affected, while women are at higher risk of mortality. Severe burns can lead to prolonged hospitalizations, and appropriate treatment is crucial to reducing complications and improving patient recovery. On the other hand, it is observed that the performance of skin grafting (transfer of avascularized skin) to cover defects caused by burns has been very promising in regenerative treatments. Burns represent a significant challenge for public health, requiring advances in prevention and treatment, with emphasis on the use of grafts such as tilapia skin to improve patients' recovery and quality of life
