Abstract: The increasing use of technology in recent years has contributed to innovative advances in all areas; however, its indiscriminate use can become a global public health problem, especially when related to adolescents. This study aims to map and analyze the scientific evidence on the impacts of screen use on academic production during adolescence. This is a descriptive and analytical literature review study with a qualitative approach, conducted according to the methodological guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI), carried out between April and May 2026 in the following databases: PUBMED, SCOPUS, EMBASE and Web of Science using the following descriptors: "adolescent", "screen time", "digital media" and "academic performance". The consistent association between excessive screen use and impaired academic performance among adolescents found in the literature highlighted a reduction in the ability to concentrate during study activities, difficulties in memory and learning processes, decreased time spent on schoolwork, changes in sleep quality, and a greater tendency towards academic procrastination. The excessive and indiscriminate use of these devices has been correlated with impairments in attention, sleep quality and school performance, suicidal ideation, and mental and cognitive impairment.
