Abstract: This essay offers a philosophical comparison between Isaac Asimov’s fictional concept of psychohistory and Shoshana Zuboff’s theory of surveillance capitalism. By examining how both frameworks address the prediction of mass human behavior, the text explores the tensions between control and freedom, transparency and manipulation. While psychohistory aims for the collective good through statistical foresight, surveillance capitalism transforms behavioral data into tools for profit and domination. The analysis shows that, despite their different goals, both systems challenge the modern concept of freedom and call for an ethical framework capable of preserving human autonomy in the face of algorithmic power.
