Abstract: This article proposes a critical analysis of Antisocial Personality Disorder (APD) from criminality and socially valued forms. A qualitative literature review examines the main divergent factors, highlighting the role of socioeconomic context, dissimulation skills and the capacity for social manipulation. Clinical and ethical challenges in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) are discussed. The results point to a contradiction: psychopaths associated with crime are stigmatized and marginalized, while successful ones are admired or rewarded in environments that value competitiveness. Understanding psychopathy requires an articulation between psychology, neuroscience and sociology and therapeutic practices and public policies that tackle both the clinical manifestations and the social mechanisms that legitimize and perpetuate them.
