Abstract: Enterolobium schomburgkii (Benth.) Benth., known as monkey ear plant, this tree stands out as a multifunctional Amazonian species, with a wide geographic distribution and adaptability to differents ecosystems. Its medium-density, high-mechanical strength wood is valued for industrial applications, while its ecological role in nitrogen fixation and recovery of degraded soils makes it essential in restoration projects. Morphologically, the species has distinctive spiral-shaped fruits and seeds with specialized properties, the germination of which still requires further research. Although it has great potential, its use is limited by gaps in understanding its reproductive biology, genetic variability, and ecological interactions. This chapter highlights the importance of integrated studies that encourage sustainable management and conservation of the species, combining its economic value with environmental protection.
