ENGAJAMENTO ESCOLAR E SEU PAPEL NA PROMOÇÃO DO BOM DESEMPENHO ACADÊMICO
A escola é um contexto de ensino-aprendizagem, no qual se prioriza o
sucesso em detrimento dos fracassos, dando-se bastante ênfase ao bom
desempenho acadêmico. Entretanto, a realidade brasileira é bastante adversa. A
literatura aponta que diversos fatores podem influenciar o bom desempenho
acadêmico, como por exemplo, os estilos parentais, autoestima e estrutura física da
escola. Nesse sentido, a fim de contribuir com a compreensão dos múltiplos fatores
que influenciam o desempenho acadêmico, buscou-se verificar se e em que medida
o desempenho acadêmico está relacionado ao engajamento escolar. Para tanto,
participaram do estudo, 481 estudantes do ensino fundamental de escolas públicas
e privadas, com média de idade de 12,9 (dp = 1,69) e divididos igualmente quanto
ao sexo. Os participantes responderam à Escala de Autoavaliação do Desempenho
Acadêmico, Escala de Engajamento Escolar e um conjunto de Indicadores de
Desempenho Acadêmico, bem como questões demográficas (sexo, idade). Os
resultados demonstraram que os diferentes fatores do engajamento escolar, a
saber: dedicação, absorção e vigor, se correlacionaram direta e positivamente com
o desempenho acadêmico. E a pontuação total do engajamento funcionou como bom
preditor do desempenho acadêmico. Ou seja, é possível que o engajamento escolar,
motive os estudantes a frequentar a escola e participar efetivamente das atividades
escolares. Tais resultados são relevantes para os profissionais que atuam no
contexto educacional, pois reafirmam a necessidade de se elaborar projetos
pedagógicos e atividades que aproximem o estudante do contexto escolar e os
conteúdos escolares de sua realidade, promovendo atitudes positivas e maior
engajamento dos escolares.

Abstract:
School is an important context of teaching and learning, in which it takes
account the success over the failure, highlighting the good academic achievement.
However, Brazilian reality is quite different. Literature points that are many aspects
that can influence the good academic achievement, such as parenting styles, self
esteem and structure of school. In this sense, aiming to contribute to understanding
of multiples factors that influences the academic achievement, the main purpose of
this research was to verify if exists and in which extension this variable is related with
school engagement. Participated of this study, 481 students of High School from
public and private institutions, with mean age of 12,9 years old (sd = 1,69) and
equally distributed by sex. They answered to Self-Evaluation of Academic
Performance Scale, School Engagement Scale and a set of Academic Performance
Indicators, as well as, demographic questions. The results showed that the different
factors of school engagement, which are: dedication, absorption and vigor, were
correlated directly and positively with academic performance. The whole punctuation
of school engagement acted as a good predictor of academic performance. In other
words, it is possible that school engagement motivates the students to attend school
and effectively participating in their activities. Such results are relevant to
professionals who act in the educational context because they reaffirm the urgency
of pedagogical planning and projects that approach students to school and the school
content to their reality, promoting positive attitudes and a larger school engagement.
