Abstract: Indoor air quality and the long human stay in enclosed spaces underscore the importance of monitoring contaminants and seeking environmentally friendly options. This study combines phytoremediation and Educational Electronics, examining the suitability of ornamental plants used as biofilters, and encourages hands-on learning using open technologies. The theoretical basis addresses indoor contaminants such as volatile organic compounds, gases, and particles, and the processes of photosynthesis and gas exchange. The applied and experimental research involves the construction of an accessible prototype, composed of an Arduino Uno, an MQ-2 sensor, and an HC-05 Bluetooth module. This, mounted on a breadboard, was programmed to collect readings at intervals, displaying the information on the computer and transmitting it to a mobile phone. The procedure compared the plants Pothos and Snake Plant in three setups: open aquarium, closed aquarium, and closed aquarium with smoke. 120 measurements were taken every hour, for each condition, in sessions lasting one hour each. The results showed moderate measurements, consistent in open space for both varieties. However, in a closed and smoky environment, the Snake Plant showed lower values but greater resistance compared to the Boa Constrictor, suggesting a relatively superior effectiveness in unfavorable circumstances. It is understood that the prototype fulfills the purpose for pedagogical and investigative use and is aligned with the BNCC (Brazilian National Curriculum Base), promoting computational thinking, digital culture, and environmental education through experimentation and the study of information.
