Abstract: Organized crime and gang violence are an international phenomenon that can arise in any country and Ecuador is currently facing a crisis due to the presence of local and international bands. In the last few years, the Government has recognized the severity of the threat they represent to public security and peace, and has implemented specific laws to combat them, as well as reforms in the judicial system that aim to significantly reduce organized crime. This article discusses the difficulties faced by the judicial system in dealing appropriately with organized crime and the results it has obtained over the last few years.
