Abstract: Since 2020, the presence of LGBT+ - queer narratives in films and streaming television shows has increased, which is helping in the globalized world through social networks to reflect greater social acceptance and appreciation of diversity, this has created a new trend in cinema called "New Mainstream Queer Cinema". Large entertainment companies and streaming platforms are beginning to support the creation of queer content, which expands the visibility of these stories globally. Despite this, challenges persist regarding authentic and diverse representation, and independent queer cinema faces difficulties due to financing and distribution issues. The paper addresses the notion of "mainstream cinema" as films produced by large companies, with the aim of attracting a wide audience and generating economic benefits. The idea of "queer cinema" is introduced as a categorization that examines not only the representation of LGBT+ people, but also the narrative, aesthetics, and gender and sexuality politics in cinema. In summary, the article thoroughly addresses the evolution of LGBT+ and queer cinema, highlighting the notable progress and ongoing obstacles in the representation and visibility of sexual and gender diversity in the film industry.
