Abstract: Materials engineering education requires the development of advanced cognitive competencies that enable students to rigorously interpret, analyze, and justify phenomena associated with metal processing. In the study of steel heat treatments, learning is often focused on procedural execution and normative application, which limits a deep understanding of the metallurgical fundamentals underlying experimental results. In this context, critical analysis is consolidated as a key pedagogical strategy for strengthening meaningful learning in engineering. This paper presents a pedagogical strategy based on the systematic incorporation of critical analysis as the core of the teaching–learning process in an undergraduate course on Metallic Materials Processing. The proposal is grounded in learner-centered educational approaches, critical reading, and dialogue of knowledge, and is articulated with experimental laboratory activities. From a qualitative methodological approach and through the systematization of teaching practice, the academic context, methodological design, pedagogical strategies, and analytical criteria are described. The results show that integrating critical analysis enhances coherent interpretation of experimental results, articulation between process variables, microstructural transformations, and mechanical properties, as well as the strengthening of technical argumentation and students’ intellectual autonomy. It is concluded that critical analysis constitutes a relevant, effective, and transferable pedagogical strategy for learning metal processing in engineering education.
