Abstract: Bone metabolism disorders are a major global health problem, frequently causing morbidity and altering the population's quality of life. Although they are highly prevalent, the pharmacological approach to these disorders still faces challenges related to considerable side effects that directly affect treatment adherence and effectiveness. In this perspective, the prospecting of new drugs from bioactive metabolites of medicinal plants emerges as an alternative to this conflicting scenario. The investigation of the osteoprotective effects promoted by derivatives of medicinal plants such as Egletes viscosa Less, popularly known as “macela”, represents a possibility for a more effective and biologically safe treatment. Thus, this chapter will discuss the current panorama of investigation of the pharmacological effects of Egletes Viscosa Less metabolites and their possible applications for the pharmacological treatment of bone metabolism disorders.
