Abstract: Introduction: Tamoxifen is a selective estrogen receptor modulator widely used in the treatment of breast cancer. However, patients using this medication can develop adverse effects and this can lead to discontinuation of treatment. Reducing the dose can help to reduce these effects and improve adherence. Objective: To verify the efficacy and safety of using reduced doses of tamoxifen in women with breast cancer, as found in recent scientific literature. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review. It was based on the selection of articles in the U.S National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health and Virtual Health Library, published between 2013 and 2023. Results: Nine articles were selected. The dose most investigated in the studies was 5 mg and most of the studies were published in 2019, 2021 and 2023. The main methodologies used were randomized trials and cohort studies. The main reductions in adverse effects were in relation to hot flushes, night sweats and cold sweats. Conclusion: Tamoxifen dose reduction appears to be safe and effective, and is a good option due to its low cost, good tolerability and high adherence, reducing the likelihood of disease progression and disease recurrences.
