Abstract: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric condition that causes significant distress due to obsessions and compulsions. Fluoxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), is widely used to treat OCD by increasing serotonin levels in the brain, which alleviates symptoms. Studies show that fluoxetine effectively reduces OCD symptoms and is comparable to other treatments, such as clomipramine. The recommended initial dose is 20 mg/day, which can be adjusted as needed. Fluoxetine has a long half-life, allowing for a less frequent dosing regimen. Common side effects include nausea and insomnia, while severe effects, such as urinary retention and serotonin syndrome, are less frequent. Fluoxetine is a valuable therapeutic option for OCD, but treatment should be personalized and monitored to ensure effectiveness and safety.
