Abstract: Abstract – Introduction: To evaluate the effects of resistance training with blood flow restriction (BFR) on anxiety, sleep quality, and stress in older adult women. Methods: Twenty-five individuals (age 64.1 ± 4.5 years), randomized into two groups: 1) Control (n=11): 0% of BFR; 2) Restriction (n=14): 70% of the BFR; performed exercise resistance at an intensity of 20% of the maximum repetitions, evaluated in PRE (before the intervention), POST (after eight weeks), and DET (after four weeks of detraining). Results: The anxiety index decrease pre vs. Post. moment (15±8 vs. 9±7 p=0.006) The sleep quality improvement in pre vs. post-period (8±3 vs.4±1 p<0.01) and cardiac stress index decrease in pre vs. post moment (21±9 vs.15±6 p=0.04). Additionally, the detraining promotes an increase in Stress index vs. post moment (POST=15±1 vs. DET=18±3 p=0.04). However, it did not worsen the sleep quality and anxiety. The depression assessment does not differ between the moments or evaluated groups. Conclusion: The resistance exercise with blood flow restriction seems useful to improve the indexes of the psychometric variables, even with the interruption of exercises for up to four weeks.
