Abstract: Human hair fiber is a keratinized filament that grows from hair follicles, extending from the dermis to the epidermis. Vegetable oils are natural compounds derived from oleaginous plants that have various benefits for different structures of the human body, such as skin and hair. This work aims to conduct a literature review on the effects of vegetable oils on hair fiber. An integrative review was performed in the MEDLINE, LILACS and EMBASE databases in order to locate current articles dealing with the theme through descriptors. Initially, 822 productions were located and after refinement ten articles composed the sample. The vegetable oils used in the studies were coconut oil, argan oil, pumpkin seed oil, castor oil, prunus mira nut oil and croton oil, which have antioxidant, hair fiber protective and growth properties, in addition to providing improvement in hair appearance. In addition, coconut oil showed clinical improvements in the treatment of parasitic hair infestations. Thus, the studies indicated that the oils had a positive effect on hair fibers, and can be used to treat falling and brittle hair, under the guidance and evaluation of a professional.
