EFEITOS DO NEUROFEEDBACK EM TRANSTORNOS NEUROCOGNITIVOS E PSIQUIÁTRICOS EM ADULTOS TRATADOS CIRURGICAMENTE POR TUMOR CEREBRAL
Introdução: Neurofeedback é uma intervenção comportamental baseada em princípios de condicionamento operante. Durante a terapia, o paciente é treinado com respostas em tempo real sobre as suas ondas cerebrais registradas por um ou mais eletrodos no couro cabeludo. Objetivo: Avaliar a eficácia do neurofeedback na melhora de distúrbios neurocognitivos e psiquiátricos em adultos tratados cirurgicamente de tumor cerebral. Métodos: É um estudo duplo-cego, randomizado, controlado por placebo para investigar se o neurofeedback melhora o funcionamento neurocognitivo e psiquiátrico em adultos que receberam tratamento cirúrgico para um tumor cerebral. 37 sobreviventes de tumor cerebral que foram submetidos a neurocirurgia, com queixas: de déficits neurocognitivos, sintomas depressivos e piora da qualidade de vida. Resultados: Indivíduos tratados cirurgicamente por tumor cerebral apresentaram melhora em suas capacidades de memória e atenção após realizar o tratamento com neurofeedback. O grupo submetido ao tratamento com neurofeedback mostrou aumento significativo. Houve melhora em habilidades cognitivas depois do tratamento com neurofeedback. Obteve-se aumento dos índices que aferem a qualidade de vida. Os participantes do estudo apresentaram diminuição dos sintomas depressivos, após realizar o tratamento com neurofeedback. Conclusão: O presente estudo comprovou que o neurofeedback é eficaz no tratamento de déficits de cognição, sintomas depressivos e alterações na qualidade de vida secundárias a tumores cerebrais. Estudos futuros com monitorização eletrofisiológica cerebral e ressonância nuclear magnética funcional se fazem necessários para estabelecer e registrar as possíveis alterações da fisiologia cerebral propiciadas pelo treino com neurofeedback.

Abstract:
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of neurofeedback in improving neurocognitive and psychiatric disorders in adults treated surgically for brain tumor. Methods: It is a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial to investigate whether neurofeedback improves neurocognitive and mental functioning in adults who received surgical treatment for a brain tumor. 37 survivors of brain tumor who underwent neurosurgery with complaints: the neurocognitive deficits, depressive symptoms and worse quality of life. Results: Individuals surgically treated for brain tumor showed improvement in their memory skills and attention after performing treatment with neurofeedback. The group undergoing treatment with neurofeedback showed a significant increase. There was an improvement in cognitive abilities after treatment with neurofeedback. Obtained an increase of the indices that measure the quality of life. Study participants showed a decrease in depressive symptoms after performing treatment with neurofeedback. Conclusion: This study showed that neurofeedback is effective in treating cognitive deficits, depressive symptoms and changes in quality of life secondary to brain tumors. Future studies with brain electrophysiological monitoring and functional magnetic resonance imaging are needed to establish and register possible changes in brain physiology offered by training with neurofeedback.
