Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential of drill cuttings as a corrective for acidic soils. For this purpose, a completely randomized design was carried out, involving samples of three acidic soils from different areas, seven doses (0.0; 1.5; 3.0; 6.0; 12.0; 24.0 and 60.0 Mg. ha-1), two types of gravel (pre-salt and post-salt) and four replicates. The samples were incubated for 16 days, and pH determinations were performed at pre-established time intervals. The treatments with pre-salt gravel showed an increase in pH, with the largest increases related to the doses applied. In the first four days, the pH stabilizes, indicating rapid reactivity of the residue in the soil. In contrast, post-salt gravel has lower pH values, evidencing a lower capacity to increase pH. The corrective effect of acidity in the pre-salt layer is due to the presence of calcium and magnesium carbonates, originating from predominantly limestone geological formations. It can be concluded that drilling waste, both pre-salt and post-salt, has potential as a corrective for acidic soils.
