Abstract: This study aimed to compare the subjective perception of anxiety and depression among older adults participating in the Community Exercise Project MOVASE, conducted at Parque Lebret, based on self-perception before and after joining the program. It is a quantitative, descriptive, and comparative study with a cross-sectional and retrospective design, developed through an electronic survey created using Google Forms. The sample included 25 participants aged 60 years or older, with a minimum attendance of 80% in supervised gym classes conducted by Physical Education professionals. Each session lasted 50 minutes and was held three times per week, including aerobic, strength, balance, and flexibility exercises, as well as educational lectures and group discussions on physical and mental health. Subjective anxiety perception was assessed using an ordinal frequency scale: never, rarely, sometimes, frequently, and very frequently. Results showed a substantial reduction in perceived anxiety levels: before the project, 68% of participants reported feeling anxious frequently or very frequently; after participation, 61% reported feeling rarely or never anxious. This change indicates a significant improvement in mental health, attributed to regular physical activity, social interaction, and the strengthening of social bonds. The findings suggest that the MOVASE Project effectively promotes psychological well-being and helps prevent anxiety symptoms among older adults, supporting evidence that community-based physical activity represents an effective non-pharmacological strategy for promoting active and healthy aging.
