Abstract: Lidocaine was synthesized in 1943, it is a systemic antiarrhythmic, as soon as it was discovered it was used for procedures that required a short duration, as the sensory and motor blocks provided by this anesthetic decrease quickly. Anesthetics are used for different purposes, not only therapeutically but also in clinical anesthesia, they can be administered through different routes, acting on the cell membrane. The present study has the general objective of verifying whether lidocaine can be used in aesthetic procedures as a form of anesthesia, the pharmacotherapeutic effects and complications in its application. Its specific objectives include: addressing the main concepts about lidocaine and anesthetics in general; justify the importance of using lidocaine correctly in aesthetic procedures; describe the mechanism of action of lidocaine and its possible toxic effects on the human body; identify the main complications during the use of lidocaine and the means/protocols for reversing these undesirable effects. Its methodology presents a descriptive-exploratory systematic review study carried out through a bibliographical survey on the effects of lidocaine for analgesia in aesthetic procedures, a relevant topic for our society that is increasingly consuming treatments focused on the area of aesthetics. Thus, it can be seen from its results that the effects of lidocaine can be directed towards blocking the sensation of pain, improving the patient's tolerance, reducing reactions to stress, among others. Therefore, the main purpose of lidocaine in aesthetic procedures is to provide relief from the pain and discomfort associated with the intervention.
