Abstract: The study analyzed the effect of aqueous extracts of Alibertia edulis, Alibertia intermedia, Alibertia sessilis, Psychotria deflexa, Psychotria leiocarpa, Psychotria capillacea, Acosmium subelegans and Vatairea macrocarpa on the feeding and oviposition behavior of Plutella xylostella, a species highly resistant to insecticides and which causes economic damage to brassica crops. The assessments were made in food preference and oviposition tests with a choice. It was observed that the aqueous extracts tested showed a preference index lower than 1 for oviposition, receiving the classification of terrestrial ovipode. The food preference index of the A. intermedia and A. subelegans extracts was greater than 1, being classified as phagostimulants, while the food preference index of the other treatments was less than 1 and they were classified as phagodeterrents. The extracts also reduced the viability of P. xylostella eggs and most treatments reduced the food consumption of this harmful insect. It is concluded that the extracts studied have properties that discourage the feeding and oviposition of P. xylostella, showing potential as alternatives for controlling this insect that is harmful to brassica crops.
