EDUCAR PARA FORMAR CIDADÃOS: EDUCAÇÃO NAS PRIMEIRAS DÉCADAS DO SÉCULO XX NO PIAUÍ
Durante os primeiros anos da República Brasileira foi desenvolvida a educação por meio da escola, como aparelho de educacional do Estado. Juntamente com a educação existia o desejo e a necessidade de criação de uma população que tivesse conhecimento de seu pertencimento a nação e seu papel de cidadã, dessa maneira o presente trabalho tem como objetivo expor a aspiração do governo do Estado do Piauí e dos educadores, nas três primeiras décadas do século XX, em formar e educar as crianças e jovens para a criação de uma população moldada pelo modelo de civilidade europeia e de cidadã. Para isso são utilizadas as produções do poder público estadual, como as Mensagens dos Governadores do Estado à Assembleia Legislativa (1900-1930), Regulamento Geral da Instrução Pública do Estado do Piauí (1910), A Instrução Pública no Piauí (1922), o Programa do Ensino Primário (1927), e também a memória de Antônio Sampaio Pereira, em Velhas Escolas-Grandes Mestres (1996).

Abstract:
During the first years of the Brazilian Republic, education was developed through the school, as an educational apparatus of the State. Along with education there was the desire and need to create a population that was aware of its belonging to the nation and its role as a citizen, in this way the present work aims to expose the aspiration of the government of the State of Piauí and of educators, in the first three decades of the 20th century, in training and educating children and young people to create a population shaped by the model of European civility and citizenship. For this, the productions of the state public power are used, such as the Messages of the State Governors to the Legislative Assembly (1900-1930), General Regulation of Public Instruction of the State of Piauí (1910), Public Instruction in Piauí (1922), the Primary Education Program (1927), and also the memory of Antônio Sampaio Pereira, in Velhas Escolas-Grandes Mestres (1996).
