Abstract: This article aims to understand the importance of death education in coping with the process of childhood grief through narratives that address the subject with expressive, poetic language adapted for children. In this context, this research provides theoretical support to healthcare and education professionals to intervene, guide, and assist children in expressing themselves and better managing their emotions. Considering this aspect, the theoretical framework adopted was from Psychology, particularly Thanatology, according to the following authors: the process of childhood grief (WORDEN; 2013), grief process (KÜBLER-ROSS; 2018); the art of talking about death (PAIVA, 2011); children's perception of death (TORRES, 1979, 2012); bibliotherapy and children's literature as therapeutic resources (SENGIK and RAMOS, 2013), and death education through literature (FARIAS et al., 2021). Consequently, the selected narratives were four tales: "You Can Cry, Heart, but Stay Whole" (Glena Ringtved), "Green Ribbon in the Hair" (João Guimarães Rosa), "Death and the Old Woman" (Ernâni Ssó), and "The Almost Death of Zé Malandro" (Ricardo Azevedo). The results achieved underscore the relevance of death education through children's literature as a therapeutic tool for psychologists' counseling, educators' pedagogical work, and family assistance
