Abstract: The book Education, Literacies, and Pedagogical Practices brings together theoretical reflections and educational experiences that problematize the role of the school in the face of contemporary challenges. Based on the understanding of literacy as a social practice, as proposed by Magda Soares, the work goes beyond the restricted view of reading and writing as merely technical skills, recognizing them as processes linked to the historical, cultural, and social contexts of individuals. Engaging with studies on multiliteracies, especially the contributions of Roxane Rojo, the book emphasizes the need for pedagogical practices that consider the multiplicity of languages, cultural diversity, and the presence of digital technologies in the production of meaning. In this sense, the school is conceived as a space for interaction, negotiation of meanings, and critical formation. From the sociocultural perspective of literacy, anchored in the reflections of Brian Street, the work shows that reading and writing practices are traversed by power relations and ideology, which reinforces education's commitment to inclusion, social justice, and the valuing of the different voices that circulate in the school environment.
