Abstract: This article seeks to discuss the formative power of Sports in High School. Based on the proposition of a thematic unit organized according to the foundations of the Critical Overcoming approach, American Football is discussed as a language that reveals some historical-cultural determinants of the westernization circuit. Development: The work was organized into two topics: the first seeks to present American Football as a cultural element. In the second moment, through the mediation of a thematic unit, the modality is discussed as a possibility of re-signifying Physical Education in High School. Final considerations: American Football organized according to the particularities of the new High School, that is, redefined from the Critical-Overcoming approach, for example, allows for a closer dialogue between Physical Education and full High School.
