Abstract: Introduction: Leishmaniasis is a neglected infectious disease with wide geographical distribution, whose persistence is associated with biological, environmental and social factors. Health education strategies are important components in combating the disease, especially in socially vulnerable contexts. Methodology: This is a report on an outreach experience developed within the Clinical Parasitology course of the Biomedicine programme at a private university in the interior of Goiás. The intervention took place in a state school, involving students in the Youth and Adult Education (EJA) programme, through educational activities based on dialogue, using visual materials and language adapted to the audience. Results: Limited prior knowledge of leishmaniasis was observed among participants, especially regarding the transmission vector and the distinction between clinical forms. The discussions revealed recurring doubts about clinical signs, transmission and the role of animal reservoirs, as well as greater assimilation of preventive measures related to environmental management and individual protection. The findings reinforce the complexity of understanding the leishmaniasis transmission cycle and the relevance of educational actions that integrate biological, environmental and social dimensions, especially in endemic territories. Final Remarks: The experience highlighted the potential of health education in the school context as a complementary strategy to leishmaniasis surveillance and control actions, in addition to contributing to academic training and strengthening community preventive practices.
