Abstract: Although digital education has existed in various forms for a long time, it has gained prominence in recent decades. Digital teaching environments have evolved their educational systems to mitigate the negative effects that could be caused in learning processes in unforeseen situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. As a result of this event, digital education is gaining ground in different scenarios, and this is no different in the field of education. This study aims to differentiate between digital education and distance learning and present the main concepts on the subject. It is justified by the fact that digital education is growing and it is important to discuss the benefits, risks and future challenges of adopting technologies in educational processes, especially in the digital training of students. The text presents two of the main forms of digital education, e-learning and b-learning, and concludes with considerations for future studies.
