Abstract: Environmental education is a fundamental tool for shaping a new ecological awareness among individuals, and it is structured around two main axes: formal environmental education and non-formal environmental education. While the former is institutionalized, organized, and mandatory, the latter is free, complementary, voluntary, and oriented toward practice and social participation, meaning that both complement each other. For environmental education to take place—whether in its formal or non-formal dimension—it is essential to implement public policies as well as proactive actions by society aimed at improving environmental quality. Furthermore, it is necessary to encourage the joint participation of governments, civil society organizations, educational institutions, and the community itself in the search for solutions to the environmental challenges faced on a daily basis. In this context, the present article is based on the fundamental premise of fostering, among students, an environmental awareness aligned with sustainable practices both inside and outside the school environment. Education is understood here as an instrument for strengthening environmental causes, enabling the development of learning experiences committed to socio-environmental well-being. The study was conducted at the Escola de Referência em Ensino Fundamental (EREF) Presidente Arthur da Costa e Silva, located in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil.
