Abstract: ABSTRACT: The present work aims to carry out a descriptive study of bibliographic reviews about Canine Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), through analysis of articles published in the main academic databases. DIIC is a chronic enteropathy with high prevalence in dogs, in which the main clinical manifestations include small intestinal diarrhea, emesis, anorexia and progressive weight loss. Diagnostic screening should initially involve dietary management and antibiotic therapy and, in the absence of response, ultrasound evaluation associated with biopsy and histopathological examination, which should demonstrate the presence of an inflammatory infiltrate in the lamina propria of the intestinal mucosa to characterize the disease. However, due to the time and invasiveness of the standard diagnostic approach, new studies have emerged to evaluate the use of inflammatory response biomarkers. During the searches, 41 articles were found, of which 33 were included in this study. Most of the articles found deal with the validation of potential biomarkers for DIIC, such as C-Reactive Protein (CRP), Plasma Amino Acid Profile (PPA), Canine Calprotectin (Ccp), MicroRNAs, Matrix Metalloproteinases 2 and 9 (MMP-2, MMP-9), Apical Sodium-Dependent Bile Acid Transport Protein (ASBT), HMGB1 Protein, Nitric Oxide (NO), immunoglobulins against bacterial antigens, Perinuclear Autoantibodies (pANCA), STAT3 Protein and others. In conclusion, more studies are needed on the specificity of the main biomarkers studied to differentiate between IBD and other inflammatory diseases.
