Abstract: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative pathology, where cognitive and memory functions are drastically impaired. The disease represents 70% to 60% of dementia cases worldwide. As life expectancy increases, AD cases are also likely to increase. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is estimated that the number of people affected by this disorder will reach 66 million in 2030 and 115 million by 2050. Current pharmacological therapies, despite having consistent science behind the development, most of them failed in phase III clinical studies. Therefore, there is a need for new research and dissemination of knowledge, since preventive measures appear to be the most viable alternative currently, improving the patient's quality of life and preventing new cases.
