DO PIONEIRISMO AO ESQUECIMENTO: AS TRANSFORMAÇÕES URBANAS DE FERNÃO VELHO, MACEIÓ-AL
Esta pesquisa fez um levantamento
e estudo do antigo núcleo residencial operário
de Fernão Velho e daquela que ficou conhecida
como “Fábrica Carmen”, verificando suas
configurações espaciais, as tipologias de
arquitetura e suas relações com diferentes
conceitos de habitat e, finalmente, o processo
de desmonte e a situação atual desses espaços.
Abordou um período em que aconteceram
as primeiras tentativas de industrialização do
Estado, por meio da fundação de sua primeira
fábrica têxtil e vila operária. Baseou-se em
levantamentos bibliográficos, iconográficos e
audiovisuais sobre o tema abordado, além de
levantamentos e sistematização de informações
obtidas por meio das pesquisas em arquivos
locais e em portais virtuais de periódicos de
instituições científicas, e de visitas ao antigo
núcleo operário de Fernão Velho, atualmente
um bairro de Maceió, Alagoas. A pesquisa
constatou o processo de esquecimento e
abandono que o bairro vem sofrendo ao passo
em que sua relevância econômica deixou de ser
uma peça chave para administração da cidade e
do Estado. Mostra assim, como este fato trouxe
consequências sociais importantes como a falta
de oportunidades de emprego para os antigos
e também o risco de desaparecimento dessa
população nos próximos anos, já que muitas
famílias acabaram por mudar de endereço.

Abstract:
This research made a survey
and study of the former workers housing of
Fernão Velho and the one that became known
as “Carmen Factory”, verifying their spatial
configurations, the architecture typologies and
their relations with different concepts of habitat
and, finally, the process of dismount and the
current situation of these spaces. It studied the
period when the first attempts at industrialization
of the state took place, through the founding of its
first textile factory and its working village. It was
based on bibliographic, iconographic and audiovisual surveys on the theme, as well as
surveys and systematization of information obtained through searches in local archives
and virtual portals of journals of scientific institutions, and visits to the former village of
Fernão Velho, currently a neighborhood from Maceió city, Alagoas. The survey found
the process of neglect and abandonment that the neighborhood has been undergoing
while its economic relevance is no longer a key piece for city and state administration.
So, It shows how this fact brought about important social consequences such as the
lack of job opportunities for the old and also the risk of the population disappearing in
the coming years, as many families eventually moved from the neighborhood.
