DO LIVRO, AO FILME E À MINISSÉRIE: A CONTEMPORANEIDADE DOS EMBATES MEDIEVAIS SOBRE A CENSURA EM O NOME DA ROSA
Tendo em vista o recrudescimento do tema da censura nas mais diversas mídias e nos
processos contemporâneos da comunicação verbal e nas redes sociais, este artigo
problematiza se, ainda hoje, podem ser percebidas ressonâncias da ideologia maniqueísta
sobre a interdição da palavra, que é o cerne de uma narrativa que se passa em1327, sob o
domínio da Inquisição. Abordamos a recente minissérie da RAI e a adaptação fílmica
homônima (1986), que têm por base o romance de Umberto Eco O Nome da Rosa (1980),
com aporte em diversos textos críticos do próprio Eco, em conceitos fundamentais sobre o
poder da palavra, bem como nas teorias da adaptação. Após o lançamento da série italiana
com oito capítulos, em 2019 e posteriormente disponível em canais de streaming,
consideramos ser pertinente repensarmos os temas relativos aos diversos tipos de censura que
emergem no contexto atual, aqui entendidos como reverberações medievalizantes.

Abstract:
Considering the resurgence of the theme of censorship in the most diverse media and in the
contemporary processes of verbal communication and in social networks, this article
discusses whether, even today, we can perceive resonances of the Manichean ideology about
the interdiction of the word, which is the core of a narrative that takes place in 1327, under
the domain of the Inquisition. We approach the recent RAI miniseries and the film adaptation
of the same name (1986), which are based on Umberto Eco's novel The Name of the Rose
(1980), with contributions from several critical texts by Eco himself, in fundamental concepts
about the power of the word, as well as in theories of adaptation. After the release of the
Italian series with eight chapters, in 2019 and later available on streaming channels, we
consider the relevance of rethinking the themes related to the different types of censorship
that emerge in the current context, here understood as medieval reverberations.
