Abstract: Feline capital physeal dysplasia, also referred to as slipped capital femoral epiphysis or femoral neck metaphyseal osteopathy, is an orthopedic condition that remains incompletely understood and relatively underreported in the veterinary literature. The disorder primarily affects young, overweight male cats and may present as either a unilateral or bilateral condition. The most common clinical findings include muscle atrophy of the affected limb, decreased range of motion of the coxofemoral joint, joint crepitation, and pain upon palpation. Radiographic examination typically reveals progressive lytic lesions in the femoral neck and characteristic imaging features described as the “apple core” appearance. Histopathological findings often demonstrate focal bone necrosis, fibrous tissue proliferation, and irregular, disorganized chondrocytes within the physeal cartilage. Surgical management is considered the treatment of choice, with femoral head and neck ostectomy being the most commonly performed procedure. Prognosis is generally favorable when early diagnosis and appropriate surgical intervention are achieved. The present study aims to review and describe the clinical presentation, diagnostic findings, and therapeutic approaches associated with this condition in cats, contributing to improved orthopedic recognition and clinical management of this disease.
