Abstract: This case report describes intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) in a 3-year-old female Maltese dog. The patient was admitted to Dondocão Veterinary Clinic and Pet Shop with a chief complaint of severe abdominal pain. On clinical evaluation, IVDD was suspected, and a complete blood count (CBC), serum biochemistry, and diagnostic imaging were performed. The diagnostic workup confirmed IVDD. Treatment was initiated with dexamethasone at 1 mg/kg administered intramuscularly for 7 days. Analgesia consisted of tramadol hydrochloride at 1 mg/kg every 8 hours and dipyrone (metamizole) sodium at 30 mg/kg every 6 hours for 10 consecutive days. A chondroprotective supplement (Condroton 500 mg) was prescribed at one tablet once daily for 60 days, along with strict rest. IVDD is a condition that can affect dogs of any breed, age, or body weight. Accurate diagnosis relies on a thorough physical and neurological examination in conjunction with appropriate imaging studies. In the present case, prompt diagnosis coupled with conservative medical management resulted in clinical recovery.
