Abstract: This chapter presents an analysis of weed dynamics in areas cultivated with cowpea under two distinct planting systems: no-tillage and conventional, in the municipality of Bom Jesus, state of Piauí, Brazil. Phytosociological surveys and analyses were carried out in both cultivation systems, evaluating aspects such as species density, frequency, abundance, and relative dry mass. The results showed that the no-tillage system significantly altered the composition and structure of the weed community, reducing weed density by 48% and dry mass accumulation by 52% when compared to the conventional system. A total of 28 species were identified, distributed among 12 botanical families, with emphasis on Poaceae and Malvaceae. In the conventional system, Alternanthera tenella was the most representative species, whereas Richardia brasiliensis was predominant in the no-tillage system. The study highlights the strategic role of no-tillage systems in the sustainable management of weeds and in enhancing the agronomic performance of cowpea.
