Abstract: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by persistent hyperglycemia, which can cause severe complications if not diagnosed early. This study aims to describe the main laboratory tests used in the diagnosis of DM and highlight their clinical importance. The methodology used was a descriptive literature review. Results indicate that tests such as Fasting Plasma Glucose, Glycated Hemoglobin (HbA1c), and the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) are fundamental for diagnostic confirmation and disease monitoring. It is concluded that the accuracy of laboratory tests is essential for proper patient management and the prevention of chronic damage.
