Abstract: The present study aimed to diagnose clinical and subclinical mastitis in dairy cows in the city of Imperatriz-MA. The research was developed through technical visits to dairy herds and diagnosis of bovine mastitis. In addition to the tests, data were collected to obtain information on hygienic, sanitary and production conditions. 640 teats were analyzed from the 155 animals sampled, belonging to 10 herds of small and medium producers with production of up to 200 l/milk. It was found that 28.38% (44/155) had mastitis, 40 (25.8%) cows with subclinical mastitis and 4 (2.58%) cows with clinical mastitis. Around 70% of the owners evaluated reported a history of losses caused by mastitis and linked to this, only 30% sporadically carried out some type of test to diagnose mastitis. The properties had an average daily milk production of 8.25 liters, 100% of which was manual milking. In this context, the importance of frequently carrying out diagnostics on herds and raising awareness among producers regarding economic losses, as well as the importance of milk quality, is clear.
