Abstract: Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation can lead from photoaging to more dangerous lesions such as carcinomas and/or melanomas. Sunscreens are substances capable of absorbing, reflecting or refracting ultraviolet radiation, protecting the skin from direct exposure to light. Currently, the cosmetic industry tends to rationally explore Braziliaon biodiversity for the development of products with components of natural origin, especially from plants. Phenolic compounds such as flavonoids are probably the substances present in plants responsible for absorption in the UV region, due to their chemical structures. The present work aimed to determine the in vitro Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of extracts obtained from the species Amburana cearensis. Two extracts were prepared containing 50 g of raw material with 500 mL different types of solvents (ethanol at 70º INPM and absolute ethanol). Spectrophotometric analyzes were performed to determine the FPS-UVB in vitro, which was evaluated according to the method developed by Mansur. When the samples were analyzed in a UV-Vis spectrophotometer, graphics were obtained with absorbance curves in a similar pattern for all concentrations, with readings in the ranges from 200 to 400 nm. Regarding FPS-UVB, the extract prepared with ethanol at 70º INPM showed the best values, obtaining values of 6.52 ± 0.01, 13.97 ± 0.01, 19.46 ± 0.03, at concentrations of 0 .5, 0.75 and 1% respectively, attributing to it a photoprotective action according to RDC nº 30 of 2012, while the extract containing absolute ethanol showed positive values in concentrations above 1%. This study presented information about the species Amburana cearensis such as its photoprotective action, allowing its use in photoprotective pharmaceutical preparations, being necessary to carry out future studies aiming at improving the extraction process and the pharmacotechnical development of formulations for this purpose.
